A Taxpayer Identification Number (TIN) is a 10-digit unique number allocated and issued free of charge by the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) to identify you as a registered taxpayer.

- Tax Compliance: It is mandatory for all taxpayers to file returns and pay taxes.

Step-by-Step Guide to Getting a TIN in Uganda
Step 1: Visit the URA Website
- Go to the official URA website: https://www.ura.go.ug or Click Here
On the menu look for Domestic Taxes and under it, look for “Get a TIN”

Step 2: Choose Type of Application
- Select the type of registration:
- Individual (for citizens, non-citizens, and sole proprietors without formal business registration)
- Non-Individual (for companies, partnerships, NGOs, etc.)
- For Individuals, select the "Instant TIN" link, which uses a simplified web-based form.
- Click the radio button to select “Individual(For Individuals)”
- Input your NIN
- Fill the correct details such as title, marital status, etc, The system usually automatically populates the other details from the NIRA Details
- Select source of income and fill the details
- Tick the reCaptcha box to verify that you are not a robot and click submit
- Your TIN will instantly be sent to your phone number and email address you provided
- You can as well download or print a copy if your TIN Certificate if the process was successful

- TIN is FREE: The service is provided by URA at no charge. Beware of agents who charge excessive fees.
- If you don't receive your TIN:
- Check your email's spam folder.
- Ensure your mobile number and email were entered correctly.
