In recent years, Samsung has consistently unveiled two foldable smartphones during its Unpacked events. This year marks a slight shift, as the company introduces a more budget-friendly option, the Z Flip7 FE joining the new Z Fold7 and Z Flip7 in representing Samsung’s foldable lineup. Staying true to its design philosophy, Samsung continues its efforts to slim down its devices. The latest models are noticeably thinner than their predecessors.
Pricing has also seen some adjustments. The Z Fold7 now starts at $1,999, a $100 increase over last year’s Z Fold6. Meanwhile, the Z Flip7 retains the $1,100 base price of its predecessor. To cater to users seeking a foldable experience under $1,000, Samsung has launched the Z Flip7 FE at $899.
Z Flip7 and Z Flip7 FE
Following in the footsteps of the Fold7, the Z Flip7 has also been refined for a slimmer profile this year. It now features a larger 4.1-inch Super AMOLED cover screen and an expanded 6.9-inch main display. For durability, Samsung has opted for Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 on both the front and back panels.
Powering the Z Flip7 is a 4,300 mAh battery the most capacious ever in the Flip lineup. Unlike the Fold7, which runs on Qualcomm’s 3nm chipset, the Flip7 is equipped with Samsung’s own 3nm Exynos 2500 processor.
The Z Flip7 FE, on the other hand, closely resembles the previous Flip6 model. It comes with a 4,000 mAh battery, a 3.4-inch external screen, a 6.7-inch internal display, and is powered by the Exynos 2400 chipset.
For the first time, Samsung is bringing DeX support to the Flip series. This means users can connect the phone to a monitor and pair it with a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse to emulate a desktop-like environment.
A new feature called Now Bar appears on the cover screen, displaying live updates such as podcast progress or delivery tracking much like iOS’s Live Activities. Meanwhile, Now Brief provides a snapshot of relevant daily info including commute times, reminders, calendar events, fitness data, and personalized entertainment recommendations.
Google Integration
Samsung has added Gemini Live support to the Z Flip7’s cover display, enabling users to access Google’s assistant without opening the device. The assistant is also integrated with Samsung Notes.
All the latest Z Flip and Z Fold devices will support Gemini Live’s enhanced AI camera and video features, allowing users to capture media and query the assistant directly. These devices will benefit from an upgraded version of Google Gemini with a new Q&A-style AI interaction mode.

Z Fold7
Samsung’s premium foldable, the Z Fold7, sheds a bit of weight compared to the Fold6, coming in at 218 grams versus the previous 239 grams. It's slimmer too, with a folded thickness of 8.9 mm, a significant drop from the Fold6’s 12.1 mm.
The external display has grown slightly, now featuring a 6.5-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel. When unfolded, the main screen stretches to 8 inches. Under the hood, the Z Fold7 runs on Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset.
Samsung claims that it has made the phone more durable by putting in a restructured hinge and hinge housing. Its display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2.
The company is now using a 200-megapixel main camera with a f/1.7 aperture, compared to the 50-megapixel camera on last year’s model.
Samsung has added some AI powers to its photo editing software. You now get a Photo Assist function, which moves, erases or enlarges objects, and adjusts angles automatically. It also uses generative AI to fill in empty spaces in pictures. The editing suite also lets users see edited and original photos side-by-side on the unfolded screen.
